Two Releases on the Same Day!

I’ve been really busy lately preparing for two upcoming releases under my pen name Ashelyn Drake. Both blog tour are running at the same time. Why? Well, the books release the same day. That’s right. I have two titles releasing on September 9th. Here they are:

Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 4.37.21 PM

Sophomore year in high school comes with its own set of problems. You’re no longer a freshmen, but you’re still two years away from ruling the school. So, you sit and languish in a kind of purgatory until junior year, when things start to get interesting.

That is, unless during your sophomore year, you find your boyfriend making out with another girl in front of your locker. Then, interesting takes on a whole new meaning, and that’s what happened to seventeen-year-old Meg Flannigan. It’s no wonder her self-esteem suffered a major hit.

Now a senior, Meg catches the eye of not one, but two guys at school (I know, right?). They happen to both be gorgeous, and each vies for her attention in the most flattering of ways. Sounds good, right? Not if one of the guys is her boyfriend, and the other one wants to be.

Meg doesn’t want to lose Ash. They’ve been together for almost five months, and she’s falling in love with him. But Noah. Ah, Noah. He’s the irresistible guy Meg has been crushing on for two years, and she isn’t ready to send him away either. But stringing both along could have disastrous results, leaving Meg in the cold once again.

One thing’s certain. Meg needs to decide between Ash and Noah soon, or she’ll lose her perfect match forever.

Sixteen-year-old Cara Tillman’s life is a perfectly normal one until Logan Schmidt moves to Ashlan Falls. Cara is inexplicably drawn to him, but she’s not exactly complaining. Logan’s like no boy she’s ever met, and he brings out a side of Cara that she isn’t used to. As the two get closer, everything is nearly perfect, and Cara looks forward to the future.

But Cara isn’t a normal girl. She’s a member of a small group of people descended from the mythical phoenix bird, and her time is running out. Rebirth is nearing, which means she’ll forget her life up to this point—she’ll forget Logan and everything they mean to one another.. But that may be the least of Cara’s problems.

A phoenix hunter is on the loose, and he’s determined to put an end to the lives of people like Cara and her family, once and for all.

Her mother hides in the garden, brooding about her missing husband. Her sister, the Inheritor of Metal, is scared of her own shadow, and her brother spends his days fighting and gambling. To add to Sara’s misery, the new queen (gold, of course) is more than a bit crazy, she misses her life in the Mundane world, and, worst of all, Micah wants to have children. A lot of them. As Sara wavers between happiness and homesickness, a conspiracy emerges against the Raven clan, implicating them in a plot to dethrone the Gold Queen. How can Sara prove her family’s innocence, and become the consort Micah needs her to be, without losing herself in the process?

Our theme this month is a free for all! Can’t wait to see what our authors come up with 🙂

For the Love of Romance

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been drawn to paranormal and fantasy books. So when I started writing, that’s where I began—writing paranormal. But then I branched out and read a few contemporary romances. Like …

Wild Cards by Simon Elkeles
Wild Cards (Wild Cards, #1)

And Easy by Tammara Webber

Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1)

The next thing I know, I’m hooked on contemporary romance, reading that genre just as much as paranormal fantasy. Yes, I read two books at once. Oddly enough, I tend to read contemporary romance on my Kindle and paranormal in paperback or hardcover. I’m not sure why.

But now I write both genres as well. Kelly Hashway writes paranormal fantasy, and my alter ego, Ashelyn Drake, writes contemporary romance. It’s fun to branch out and try something new.

New in 2014

2014 is bringing some new things for me. For starters, I have a new agent. My former agency closed, which left me querying at the end of 2013, but now I’m proud to say I’m represented by Sarah Negovetich of Corvisiero Literary Agency. I’m excited to go out on submission for the first time with Sarah.

I’m also facing my first full year writing under two names. In addition to my speculative fiction that I write as Kelly Hashway, I’m also writing contemporary romance as Ashelyn Drake.

The third and “final” book in the Touch of Death series, titled Face of Death, releases later this month. I say “final” because it’s technically the last book, but there will be a novella from Alex’s perspective in the future. 🙂

Face of Death_front cover (2)

I also have three new series coming out this year! I’m really looking forward to The Monster Within (YA paranormal), Into the Fire (YA paranormal), and my first middle grade series, Curse of the Granville Fortune.

So, I’m hopeful that 2014 is going to be a great year.

What’s new for you this year?

January Preview

Happy New Year!!! We are back for another great year, more fun releases, and more wonderful posts from our amazing authors 🙂

Speaking of new releases, this month we’ve got:

Kelly Hashway’s Face of Death, releasing from Spencer Hill Press on Jan 28th:

Face of Death_front cover (2)Having fallen at the hands of Hades, Jodi’s enduring torture like she never imagined. Worse, she has to watch her Ophi friends suffer along with her–the punishment doled out by the very people she’d sentenced to life in Tartarus. Hell. This is one reunion Jodi hoped would never happen, but now she must find a way to free them all.

Except the underworld is nearly impossible to escape.

Jodi’s one chance may rest in raising the human soul she killed when she drank Medusa’s blood.

But splitting her human soul from her Ophi soul means living a double life: One as an Ophi experiencing unspeakable torture and the other as the human she could have been if she never came into her powers. With her two worlds colliding, Jodi will have to make the toughest decision she’s faced yet.

And Michelle McLean’s third and final installment in her Blood Blade Sisters trilogy, A Bandit’s Betrayed Heart, releasing from Entangled’s Scandalous on Jan 13th:

Betrayed heartNot your typical Southern belle…
Lucy Richardson’s bandit sisters may have taught her to sling a gun and pick a stubborn lock, but nothing prepared her for the agony of her first heartbreak. Her sisters taught her to fight like hell for what she wants… and she wants Finn.

Not your proper Southern gentleman…
Finn Taggart is bad news. His dark and tortured past always catches up to him, and Lucy deserves better than to be tainted by his touch. He couldn’t have her years ago, and he can’t have her now, no matter how enticing she is. If only he can convince her of that before the danger that follows him brings them both down.

Not your classic love story…
Danger doesn’t exactly scare a girl like Lucy, and she knows how to use all kinds of weapons… including her feminine wiles. Finn doesn’t stand a chance. And if they need backup… the Blood Blade Sisters are never far away…

Our topic this month is What’s New in Our World – stay tuned to find out what our authors are up to!

All I Want For Christmas Is…

…an agent.

The end of 2013 has been rough for me. My agency closed, leaving me without representation once again. I’ve had some other things go wrong as well, but having my career feel like it’s been put on hold has been the toughest on me. I’m in the query trenches again, and thankfully I have some fulls and partials out already.

So this Christmas, all I really want is an agent who will help me get my books back out on submission with publishing houses. That’s what’s topping my list.

What do you want this holiday season?
